Chocolate-loving Hikers
Recently, I joined several others on an urban hike, visiting ‘chocolate shops’ in Toronto.
Being a ‘dark chocolate’ lover, as well as a ‘hiker’, this combination appealed to me. Hiking a few kilometers, sampling a truffle, then hiking it off until the next ‘stop’, sounded interesting.
In all we hiked a fair distance with various breaks along the way. I would like to be able to say I walked it all off and never got my fill of chocolate, but that would be a lie.
After sampling truffles at six stores, I could not manage another one at the remaining three.
I did enjoy a yummy dark ’hot chocolate’ in the Distillery district, to warm me and energize me for the last trek to Richtree on Yonge, where we had some ‘real’ food.
I opted for a mediterranean pizza washed down with guiness. I have found that the dark stout replenishes my electrolyte and mineral balance quite nicely after a hike! Not to mention the relaxing effect, after the adrenaline rush I get from a lengthy, fast-paced walk, and in this case, a chocolate caffeine spike as well.
However, in future I think I’ll leave the chocolate-eating separate from my hiking, unless ‘one’ square is included in my snack, of course.
